Summary:
Act as a liaison between the school/district and families, providing outreach and coordinating support services.
Coordinate and implement family education and school improvement activities for all students, (special education and students without special needs).
REQUIRED
Qualifications:
EDUCATION Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS Possess an Illinois Professional Educator License Endorsement for Paraprofessional Fluent in spoken and written English; Fluent in Spanish as well is preferred Knowledge of of schools and education terminology Knowledgeable about high-quality early childhood programs and effective in explaining, organizing, and implementing them Good computer and technology skills Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Experience and ability to work with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds Reliable transportation required to travel for home visits
Essential Functions:
To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.
Provide outreach to parents of young children providing information about the Pre-K Program.
Promote community awareness of the Pre-K Program through collaboratively planning screenings with the screening team, preparing and distributing informative brochures and information to local community agencies and locations within the community where parents frequent.
Contact parents to schedule and confirm screening appointments.
Assist the school social worker in the completion of the parent interview component of the screening, work with the screening team to determine student eligibility and discuss the results of the screening and enrollment eligibility with parents if needed.
Assist parents in completing school paperwork and registration documents, including forms needed for income verification, school physicals, home language survey, and proof of residency.
Collaborate and communicate with school nurse, teachers, office staff regarding family compliance with school district state guidelines for physicals, immunizations, and enrollment forms.
Collaborate and communicate with teachers, office staff, and social worker on attendance and follow up with families when attendance issues arise.
Review attendance on a regular basis to identify patterns of absenteeism.
Educate parents about the benefits and importance of regular attendance.
Coordinate with social worker, nurse, and community agencies and follow up with student services such as vision, hearing, and dental screenings, dental and health services, mental health services, food bank, and picture days.
Collaborate with the school social worker to assist families with community resources such as childcare, health, food, clothing, and housing needs.
Coordinate and conduct home visits as needed to support home-school connection, address attendance issues, and provide other family support.
Coordinate and attend school family evening events as well as other events such as open houses, field trips, family events, training sessions, etc.
Engage parents to participate in Parent Advisory Council and other leadership opportunities.
Maintain records of family contacts, parent attendance at family events, educational programs, and volunteerism.
Collaborate with teachers to engage parents in the classroom and school, including meaningful volunteer opportunities.
Implement and support activities to ensure a strong connection between home and school, including take-home activities.
Coordinate Kindergarten transition events for students transitioning to Kindergarten.
Supervise arrival/departure, bus loading/unloading, and parent/student drop off.
In special or unexpected circumstances, assist or fill-in for classroom or office staff as needed.
Assist classroom teachers with education and assessment of small groups of children as needed.
Conduct parent education classes on the importance of early education.
Provide inservice training with parents/demonstrate how to assist their child with literacy and educational activities at home.
Coordinate the monthly snack calendar with food services and maintain records of the snack program and submit monthly reports.
Carry out any other duties as assigned by the building and/or district administration.
If the Family Educator is bilingual, then he/she will perform all of the above functions, and will also:
Translate oral and written communication and materials such as classroom newsletters, classroom materials, school memos and forms.
Interpret for parent conferences, parent meetings, and screenings.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of support personnel.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Indoor classrooms/school, exposure to:
student noise, lawn mowing, music, odors of food, mowed grass and possible communicable diseases.
Outdoor schoolyard and grounds, field trips; exposure to; temperatures (hot, warm, cold, cool), and exposure to mowed grass.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
