Dental Center Patient Services Representative

PurposeThe Patient Service Representative is responsible for patient registration, scheduling, answering incoming telephone calls, taking messages, making patient reminder calls and performing other duties normally associated with this position.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities Services as a patient experience champion and patient advocate Promptly greets, assists, and directs patients and visitors in a pleasant and professional manner.
Responsible for patient check-in, registration, and check-out.
Instructs patient/guardian of documentation required for visit.
On subsequent visits, verifies demographic and billing information to ensure accuracy.
Obtains patient demographic and insurance information, verifies insurance eligibility, and enters accurate information in the electronic health record.
Provides patients with an explanation of all registration forms, obtain patient/guardian signatures on required consents and acknowledgements, and scan all accurately completed registration forms in the electronic health record.
Navigates through insurance portals and accurately interprets coverage information such as the plan coverage description, copayment, primary care provider, etc.
Assists patients with changing their primary care provider if applicable.
Is proficient working with the sliding scale program and enters eligible patients into the sliding scale program and enter all necessary information in the electronic record.
Collects and processes payment due for visit (co-pays and outstanding balances) and complete the daily cash reconciliation process.
Schedules patient appointments in accordance with criteria established by Promise Healthcare Performs appointment reminder calls and no-show calls and/or monitors the electronic reminder system Manages a large volume of incoming calls on a multi-line phone system.
Handles all calls politely and professionally and refers calls to the appropriate staff member.
Communicates and coordinates with providers and/or clinical staff to ensure timely patient care.
Records and Relays messages to the appropriate staff member Performs other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Excellent interpersonal skills Excellent computers, verbal and written skills Physical DemandsModerate physical exertion including frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching and carrying moderately heavy loads (up to 25 lbs.
)Competencies Comfortable with technology including electronic health records Good interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills Familiarity and ability to work with diversity of cultural/socio-economic backgrounds Demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and superior customer service skills while working in a fast paced environment Above average mathematical abilities Above average proficiency in use of telephone, computer, calculator and photocopier Interest in working with a high level of contact with other people Ability to speak and write fluently in English and Spanish Ability to maintain confidentiality Education/Experience Requirements High School Diploma required; college preferred One to two years' experience working in a healthcare setting strongly preferred Language SkillsBilingual (Spanish) language strongly preferred.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
